Obligatory End of Time reaction post
Jan. 1st, 2010 10:15 pm- I don't care how in-character it might have been. Ten's exit was cringeworthy.
- How is that Rassilon that makes no sense.
- I'm not sure which is worse: Jack/some random guy from some episode or Mickey/Martha. Both are kind of insulting. And Mickey and Martha were my favourite characters on the show.
- 25 minutes of sad goodbyes?
- That was a big waste of the Master.
- The only good parts were, "THAT'S RACIST," the Doctor not wanting Wilf's gun, and the Doctor proposing to the Master again. And it still wasn't enough to cancel out the fail.
- Was the Time Lady Romana?
- I am still unclear as to whether Ten was dead of radiation or of emo.
If the purpose of these episodes was to make me look forward to Eleven replacing Ten and Moffat replacing Rusty, they were 100% successful. Not that I wasn't looking forward to that anyway.

Date: 2010-01-02 05:28 am (UTC)But sweet Jesus ... I've been thinking that Davies has just become full of himself ("Just become!?!" I hear you cry), but your point about,
has me considering the possibility he just (a) got bored of the whole god damned thing and (b) holds all of Whodom in contempt, full stop.
Happy fucking new year.
Edited to make spacing prettier.

I am in agreement. Though a lot of people seemed to think either or both was great. I am not fannish enough to argue with them.

Date: 2010-01-02 09:06 pm (UTC)Yeah. Maybe we're too old? I see all kinds of greatest episode ever! and I cried for the last 20 minutes remarks in Who community. And I don't see any point in arguing with their pleasure either.
hello btw

Date: 2010-01-02 06:37 pm (UTC)1) Ten saves Mickey's and Martha's lives
2) Ten saves Luke's life
3) Ten hooks up a still-grieving Jack with a guy from an episode I hated and it's presented as something other than a random shag
I would have been more accepting. But Jack can get laid on his own just fine; there's no need for the Doctor to waste his dying moments on it.
Martha and Mickey only make sense if it's far, far in the future (and that's why Mickey has the Beard of Hotness) and they've had time to exchange more than, like, three words with each other.

Date: 2010-01-03 04:10 am (UTC)We have this big problem where the whole human race has been turned into the Master, and then Timothy Dalton shows up and just undoes it. Then there's this whole horrible problem of Gallifrey coming back with all of these amazing horrors and threatening to wipe out the Earth and all it's going to take is killing the Master or Timothy Dalton to stop it? And even worse, shooting some convenient machine in the room has the same effect?
Instead of having an even quasi-satisfying response to the action, it gets wrapped up too quickly so we can sit through Davies saying goodbye to all of his characters? Couldn't that have been a 1-2 minute bit, with the possibility of using the rest of the footage in a DVD-extra (or whatever)?
I completely missed that it was Mickey with Martha the first time around. Definitely a WTF?
As for Jack and the random hookup with a past minor character (who I also missed recognizing), I can at least hope that's a setup for something and not just a random hookup.

Date: 2010-01-04 04:27 am (UTC)Teh Boyfriend is one of those creepy Who fans who can quote things that happened in the 1963 episode with complete accuracy, and he declares Time Lady was Susan, the Doctor's granddaughter who was around very early on and just kind of drifted out of sight. His justification - Wilf asks who Time Lady was, and Ten gives a lingering look to Donna, Wilf's own granddaughter.
I thought it was a massive waste of awesome Time Lords too, honestly. I mean, how exciting! And then bam, the Master and the incredibly creepy Dalton just disappear again. But as obsessed boyfriend says, this opens the door on the Time Lock - the Daleks were said to be dead and gone too, until that door was opened in S1.
Underwhelming, really. I mean, total sadness with 'I don't want to go'. But seriously, the Jack thing was really insulting (Ten makes things better with hookups?) and it all went on way, way too long...
