Yeah, it's like the Dark Willow storyline on Buffy for me -- the writer wants to get to a big dramatic scene (Willow going evil, Garibaldi sleeping through some Urgent Message thing) so he's plotting backwards, and it just doesn't work.
That's exactly what it reminds me of, now that you mention it.
Yeah, there's a lot of bullshit out there about interventions and how well they really work, &c &c, but I can guarandamntee you someone who's spent time around an addict isn't going to give up that easily (unless they just don't want to deal with it - which is really different, and usually family). What makes it even MORE stupid is one of the few ways to reliably get someone to rehab is to threaten them with being fired, and then have work pay for the rehab itself. Not that I would want Go forbid a Special Garibaldi Intervention Episode, especially since we had way too much of that shit already with Franklin, but it's just so unrealistic. (Of course it's unrealistic to have someone as paranoid and unreliable as Garibaldi in charge of security anywhere anyway, but whatever.)
Yeah, I could see them trying and failing, which happens. But I can't see them trying a bit, taking his word for it, and putting him in charge of stuff. Even if Sheridan was too wrapped up in his own shit to notice (which I doubt), he's not making these decisions alone. And we know Franklin's noticed and isn't afraid to point out when something is a terrible idea.
