Blowing up B5 is one of those Big Iconic Moments (Tara getting shot, Buffy's gravestone, &c) that makes powerful emotional sense when you see it but really doesn't stand up to logic at all. It does fit nicely into the prophecies that it would "end in fire," but uh yeah, that's it.
