The Chelsea Manning stuff is actually an example of internet politics that drive me mad. I wish people would reserve their ire for people who aren't trying instead of people who maybe just don't get that it's important to go ahead and use female pronouns even though the story is discussing someone whose transition is just being announced. It'd be nice if people got that, but a lot of things would be nice. I've spent plenty of my life making an effort to graciously accept that people aren't always up to speed. It's not that fun, but people do not like being scolded and it is truly worth the trouble of having a little patience to make people feel like they're being encouraged rather than commanded to get it right.
