My reaction would have been much different before I had a child. I am non-white, and a parent, and I find that image incredibly triggering. Now, I want to help-- and did, before that picture showed up in my inbox. I get the importance of it. But the picture itself-- the one in the surf-- I can feel the panic attack coming when I so much as glimpse it. I can deal with it from the remove of thinking about it, but actually seeing it... It is instinctive how not ok it is. I hope that it shocks people out of their xenophobia and disgusting jingoism. But I can't deal, myself.
