I enjoyed reading this post. Thanks for taking the time to write it. It's heartening there really are places like that, where real people live (I'm assuming you're real). I stayed in NYC briefly in some probably soon-to-be gentrified area and although it wasn't as cool as you described, there was a sense of community that I've never had anywhere I've lived.
