I think that's different. When each side has the capacity to not only obliterate each other, but obliterate the entire world several times over, it's logical to assume that the conflict can lead to the end of the human race, and therefore history. But the "end of history" meme wasn't common until after the Cold War. And while the Israelis have nukes, I don't think they brought enough for the whole class, fortunately.
