Internet fame!

I got BoingBoinged! Well, [livejournal.com profile] zingerella and [livejournal.com profile] apperception, and I did. But no credit. I so regret never putting my name on that thing.

Is it gauche to ask for credit, do you think?

ETA: Jezebel too!

Ask for credit? Don't be silly. You exist to anonymously and for free provide content for millionaires. That the Eye of Boing turned your way even for a moment should be thanks enough, mortal worm.

[identity profile] outcastspice.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
that's awesome! yeah, why not write in and tell them you made it? or send them an updated version with your name or website on it?

[identity profile] human-loser.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally claim credit, why not?

[identity profile] fengi.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I missed this the first time around, so congrats and "well, shoot" at the same time. I don't suppose any of you know Annalee Newitz.

Extra awesome points for the first comment being a link to "Why Beautiful People Have More Daughters: From Dating, Shopping, and Praying to Going to War and Becoming a Billionaire-- Two Evolutionary Psychologists Explain Why We Do What We Do".

"I can rotate three-dimensional objects in my mind and you can't."

Bwahaaaa!

[identity profile] zingerella.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. Ouch.

[identity profile] zingerella.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It would be really nice if people would at least link back to PAB.

:o
I've never met a famous Internet celebrity before! I'll have to get you to sign my laptop. Wait that sounded dirtier than I intended...

[identity profile] marrythebed.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
And Jezebel too! Congratulations!

[identity profile] apperception.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
do you remember what part of it I'm responsible for?

[identity profile] simienwolf.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
This one I didn't quite get.

(I'm assuming) it refers to tests of spatial ability, where as a group males outperform females as a group. This would be on things like Tetris, where you have to mentally rotate three-dimensional objects; it's a kind of task that often appears on IQ tests.

What it misses is that the differences between men and women are slight, that they say nothing about the differences between one particular man and one particular woman, that's there's no evidence this is a genetic difference (these gendered gaps in math and spatial ability don't exist in all cultures), and that even if it WERE a purely genetic difference that ALL men were WAY BETTER at compared to ALL WOMEN... it's just not that important a skill.

Nevertheless, I have heard actual men try to make some kind of link between this and, like, why they won't do the dishes. (Which doesn't make sense for lots of reasons, including the fact that filling the dishwasher is a spatial skill.)

You are a superior troll, I shall never contend it.

I also get the distinct feeling some of the evo psych defenders who are all "it's a real science" have confused it with evolutionary biology which is a very different discipline, as in, involving actual science and theories which can be proved, rather than guessing how our ancestors thought and how it helped them breed.

LOL at the Free Space. Also, you need to ask for credit!

Man, that old thing...

It's kinda awesome that more people get to see the bingo card, though

And it pissed people sexist arseholes off.

Fixed that for you.

Dude I had to look up misandrist so I'm pretty sure I qualify as a weaker male.

You were also linked on Language Log, where they courted fail by pointing out how men suffer, too. They at least didn't go into it in detail.

You're saying chimps don't prefer blonds? Really, it can all be traced to our savannah ancestors.

Now excuse me while go back to rotating a dodecahedron. With my mind!

also, women catch up to the menz on spatial reasoning when you sit us in front of first-person-shooter video games for a bit before running the test :)
