It's weird, according to Ha'aretz, "Sharon`s physician says he expects PM to emerge from surgery `safely`"
That was posted about an hour ago, yet it hasn't been picked up anywhere else to the best of my knowledge.
What would be better, if he died or if he lives and ends up stepping down? The former might get Olmert the sympathy vote, which would take some of the power from Bibi. The latter... I don't know what would happen with that scenario, really.
see, that was my first thought, BUT- dont polls show that new party is composed of more former likud voters than labor voters? what if they just revert to their old ways? on the other hand, what if they take a look at netanyahu, think eww old been there wasnt too happy and go towards labor. on the other other hand, what if the trauma of sharon's death brings out the cowardly scared sheep that all of us are sometimes and they go towards the familiar however old and smelly rather than the anxiety-causing new.
unfortunately there is really nothing happy about this. he has done more to get us out of the quagmire of the occupation than all the leftist governments up till now and I believe he disbanded his right wing government so he could make even more progress. I cried for days when he won the election thinking it was the end for everything I hoped for, but now I think he is our only hope. fuck.
This is the problem with putting hope in government.
Sharon's agenda is to make colonization of the West Bank more successful, by removing liability for an essentially useless colony in Gaza. He is not interested in ending the occupation; Likud and Labour are not interested in ending the occupation. Even if they were forced to end the occupation of the West Bank, they would still occupy the '48 territories by force, and maintain military dominance over the rest of Palestine.

Hopefully not Netanyahu again. I've just managed to ruin my happy.

...just checked, it depends on poll. personal poll shows net and amir disturbingly close.
but the knesset seats polls are... less close btwn likud and labor, 39-22-12.
is this all denial? very likely. i cant deal with the prospect of netanyahu. sorta agree with zazuom. hmm...

But in this case I might just make an exception.
Well, OK, too badly disabled to continue in politics would do.
