* Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the U.S. hadn't made an official declaration of war since 1942.

The U.S. has indeed not made an official declaration of war in a while. I'm not cetain but maybe Korea was the last one.

Did they actually declare war, though? I remember my tenth grade history teacher telling me that the Korean War was officially still on, but I think it might have been a "military action" rather than a war.
