MOVING ALONG.

Okay, so Rick and Morty is about a time traveller (Rick, because his name goes first) who is an embittered alcoholic because he keeps trying to go back in time to kill Hitler but it never works. Morty is his slightly dim companion/enabler. It's otherwise like Doctor Who except instead of a TARDIS he has a really shit knock-off, like a cardboard box with "TIM MACHEN" written on it and instead of a sonic screwdriver he has, I don't know, a toothbrush or something. It started out as two really high guys doing a YouTube channel but got picked up by Adult Swim.

The fic is 100% about them fucking, sorry.

Hannibal?

Okay so it's a show about Will Graham (always referred to by first and last name) who is a man genetically engineered by a Tumblr committee to be the most flawless human being and wear the most flower crowns possible. He has a lot of dogs because they can sense his innate goodness, and has SO MUCH EMPATHY that he literally can't stand to be around people. The FBI uses him to profile serial killers because WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG.

He is invited to a series of increasingly awkward and uncomfortable dinner parties by a psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter until he starts pointing out that by the way Hannibal rhymes with "cannibal" and maybe he is some of the serial killers that they are profiling. The FBI is like, "No, you need psychiatry clearly so go hang out with Hannibal more," because the whole thing is an allegory for the nature of evil and hopefully not an accurate depiction of how either the FBI or psychiatry functions.



I once went looking on AO3 for fic but it was 90% A/B/O, which is my biggest fandom pet peeve, and 10% stories where Hannibal and Will become murder husbands and adopt the girl (I forget her name) as a murder daughter and have a million more puppies.

If it's not obvious, I have watched every episode of this show and my primary ship is me/Freddie Lounds' wardrobe. :)

Animal Crossing!

I think this is a video game! At first I was worried that maybe it was like that classic 80s arcade game Frogger, but that would be horrible and I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't play something like that.

So I think the crossing is maybe an actual crossroads, perhaps in a meadow clearing in the middle of a forest, and that is where ridiculously cute animals with large eyes meet to trade things, possibly magical gemstones. The animals are all weird hybrid things like unikitties and bumbleraccoons, and they form rather complex alliances with other animals, and your goal is to assemble the biggest alliance with the most kickass magic gemstones.



In terms of what kind of fic might arise from this, I don't want to know! YMMV, to each her own.

We all know how baseball works, right? It's the one with the sportsbats that isn't cricket. 90% of the game is sitting around waiting, which is good because 90% of what I like to do at sportsball games is drink beer and you can do a lot of that at a baseball game and not miss very much. Unfortunately the beer is overpriced and not very good.

Where was I?

Right. So because the game is 90% waiting, the fic written in this fandom is fucking amazing. Like, it's literally all surreal existentialist dialogue between the guys on the bases waiting around for someone to hit the ball, but that hardly ever happens, so it becomes a Sisyphean analogy for the pointlessness of human life.



There is zero porn in this fandom as all of the dudes wear baseball hats, and try getting off on dudes wearing baseball hats. Just try it.

I think Grimm is about a guy who is just trying to lead a normal life until he finds out that he is descended from the Brothers Grimm and monsters are real, so he has to go into the woods and fight haunted trees with stakes (I gave him two stakes to distinguish him from Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Fairy tales keep coming to life, but they are the old school, Germanic kind of fairy tale involving foot amputations and child murder, so it's genuinely scary. He wears a suit or a long black trenchcoat or something. His sidekick is a grizzly mountain man who is secretly a werewolf. They have a bromance but both have short-lived love interests so that the show doesn't get too gay.

I think the woods are in Seattle and they work for the FBI, maybe.



The only things I know about Once Upon a Time are that it is also based on fairy tales and one of the dudes from The Full Monty is in it. :)

I wouldn't know how to begin to draw it, but Habs fandom is kind of like...

Okay, you know those people who watched Game of Thrones when it aired but had never read the books or asked anyone who read the books what happened, even though the first one had been out for like 10 years and even I knew that Ned Stark gets his head cut off? And then they were all shocked and wailing and thought that the story couldn't possibly continue after the main character died and they vowed to stop watching, etc.?

That's kind of how I picture the Habs fandom.

WWE is great because it is like a regular story but with all the irritating plot and character development removed and just the fighty bits left.

The death toll approximates that of a George R.R. Martin novel.

There is one guy called The Undertaker who looks like a death metal guy and another guy named Hulk Hogan who has blond hair and a hammerhead mustache and I think another guy named Iron Sheik, but not the rapper. They get all oiled up and shirtless and beat each other up and it's glorious. There are good wrestlers and bad wrestlers but they switch sides all the time to create dramatic tension.



There is no porn written in this fandom because it already involves sweaty, half-naked guys rolling around with each other. Also, Rob Ford is part of the fandom and no one wants to think of him reading their wrestling erotica.

I will just say that if there is a Culture fandom, someone ought to inform me so that I can join it. My OTP (to the extent that there can be OTP within a setting where polyamory is the only sensible romantic option) is Y'breq/Falling Outside the Normal Moral Constraints, and I once caused some people's brains to explode on Tumblr by suggesting that writing Mind erotica is the ultimate in shipping.

Archer!

Oooh I have now seen Archer, finally. For the longest time I was getting it confused with Arrow, but it is a separate thing entirely. It is not actually about a guy who is an archer. It's about spies. Ludicrously incompetent and oversexed spies. And also about how to not get ants.

But anyway I watched the first four or five episodes and it's completely hilarious. I have no idea what the fandom might be like, besides that it's full of everyone except me, apparently, because I was the last person in the world to see it.

The fic is probably about the girls getting it on because anyone getting it on with the men on the show is an appalling concept.

The Fallout video game series.

I think Fallout is set a few years after the Cold War resulted in WWIII, maybe in the 50s or 60s. The only people left are living in fallout shelters, hence the name. They have to live down there for decades, and so generations grow up kind of like the Church of the Telling Vision, frozen in this suburban whitebread Leave It To Beaver sorta thing.

Meanwhile outside the radiation from the nuclear bombs has turned everyone into zombies.

You play a plucky girl, possibly slightly rockabilly in looks, who for some reason has to go above ground and see what's up, and you fight hordes of zombies with a series of increasingly cool weapons. They are slow zombies but there is a lot of them, and many are little blond girls in poodle skirts with pigtails.

Oh, and there is some kind of dark mystery at the heart of it all, probably involving the government being responsible for the zombies in the first place.



Almost forgot about the fandom. Okay, the fic is 99% crossovers.The Winchesters go to the Fallout universe. My Little Ponies in the Fallout universe. The Doctor in the Fallout universe (he stops the radioactive zombies, obviously; it's a very short story).

I was both hoping and dreading that someone would mention this one, because I would have to find a way to illustrate what happens when you let your TV shows have unprotected sex.



In terms of what I think the fandom is like? Lots of crossovers. Lots of Christian Kane's characters having sex with each other because for some reason people seem to like that sort of thing. Nowhere near enough Ezekiel-based fic.

Rat Queens!

Rat Queens is a comic about three young women in a cyberpunk city where the rent is too damned high. They all live in this cool working class neighbourhood that developers would just love to knock down and build futuristic condos over and are community activists and members of a roller derby team. They all have a bunch of low-level superpowers, like summoning hordes of rats and controlling them with their minds, that seem totally useless until a bunch of corporate fat cats come to their neighbourhood looking for investment opportunities and have rats drop into their hair.

Anyway, by night they fight crime, but it's like white collar crime and say, shitty landlords who burn down people's housing for the insurance money.



There are all of five people doing fandomy things in the fandom, and they're all on Tumblr, but the art and fic quality is insanely high and it all passes the Bechdel test.
