God bless teh intarwebs

The perfect thing for a shitty day:
Cats who talk. Talking cats. OMG.

Soon, they will develop opposable thumbs and humans will no longer be needed.

They all sound like demon-possessed children. Excellent!

That is the plot of one of my favorite sci fi novels -- André Norton's Breed to Come. Seriously; talking, opposable thumbs and a slightly bigger frame.

That last cat was very, very angry. Or possibly on psychotropic drugs, if you look at the speech utterances.

Man, thanks for that clip. I'm totally sharing it with friends.

Jaz is very confused by the sounds coming out of my speakers.

He can speak already, but he mostly says stuff like "prrt prrrrrrt awroarow".

Ayida just came over and very curiously watched the screen, head slightly cocked. Camera was not in reach. :(

That last cat was either very frightened or very sick. The "mama" one killed me though.

Andre Norton was a cat lover who wrote tons of sci-fi with inspiration from her cats.

She wrote Daybreak 2250 AD, which had a main characater named Lura, a mutated giant siamese who was the hunting companion of Fors, the Star Man's son who went abroad to explore the post-apocalyptic world...

...and I read this in seventh grade. It's a great read for a young'un.

Hopefully cats will finish their evolution into full sentience soon so they can get rid of these miserable humans and begin their mission of galactic dominance. All this Amerikashit is getting really boring and depressing.

Maybe, but Ayida makes sounds like that sometimes right before she's gonna puke onna rug. It sounds more like "Lordy, lordy, lordy, lordy..." Or sometimes "ladle, ladle..." I hate that sound, esp @2am.

Daj, the kitty pictured, only rarely meows. Mostly he opens his mouth and no sound comes out.

Jaz, the black kitty, is very vocal. I should teach him to sing. (And he's just spent the last 5 minutes trying to scramble up the curtains, which is cute but annoying.)

So have you seen "New Earth", the first episode of the current series of Dr. Who?

The cats aren't entirely benevolent, cos, well, they're cats, but they do try to do the best they can for the miserable humans.

Yes, they were oddly un-catlike. The zeppelins were great, but I couldn't help thinking of Michael Moorcock, cos alternative universes containing zeppelins are pretty standard in his books.

I think I need a Dr. Who icon. Damn fannish impulses.

Your hero and the next governor of Michigan!

Good article. I thought it might cheer you up. :)

I think I said that because I'm a man.

But I do want cats to take over. Now.

Holy shit, you're reading a whole book written by this guy? I think I should reconsider your sanity.

[identity profile] pretzelsalt.livejournal.com 2006-05-30 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I know this much.

If cats could talk, they wouldn't.

If they did decide talking was appropriate it sure as hell wouldn't be "mama" or "i love you".

Oh - and I know some cats with opposable thumbs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydactyl_cat

Decades and decades of the 6th toe phenomenon and I have actually met some furballs who can pick stuff up with their alien toe.

The future is now.

Soon, they will develop opposable thumbs and humans will no longer be needed.

Soon they will be able to type and give snark running commentary like Ruben in Howard Chaykin's American Flagg.

Errata

[identity profile] rohmie.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Crap. Ruben is the human's name. Not the cat's. Raul is the cat.

The second cover is taken from a storyline in which Ruben, the human, is in Canada, which is ruled by posses of communist cowboys.
