In other news, the sky is blue

SUVs suck, octopuses rule, and Bush likes killing Arabs.

It's nice to know that the world never changes.

(Hat tips: [livejournal.com profile] rackletang for the octopuses, [livejournal.com profile] uberbitsch for the Camus.)

thanks. now I've got that fucking Cure song in my head.

"It's nice to know that the world never changes."

Sure it does. Last night I went to sleep all warm and snuggly in a nice barricaded building, then I woke up all dead and zombified. And then a nice Sabotabby came by and revived me. It's been quite a day.

Malton IWW? I love it! I totally want in!

Bless you for finally leading me to the discovery of finding something I've been wondering all these years...the original reference for The Cure's 'Killing An Arab'. The lightbulb is now on. My reading of Camus has been spotty.

[identity profile] eyelidlessness.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
They were embarrassed to have someone find something good in their CD collections?

[identity profile] eyelidlessness.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I should add... there is good goth music. It's called Bauhaus.

My favorite book in high school, I resolved myself to have relationships with women just like Mersault has w/ his girlfriend. Also, I had a job working as a shipping clerk at the time, just like Mersault, so that helped.

Also, there was a period of my life where I'd wake up in the morning and lay in bed smoking cigarettes, just like Mersault. It was awesome!

:-/

Dude, I'm fuckin' serious. If I were teasing you, it'd be much more obvious. :)

Ask [livejournal.com profile] trioxin4dinner. She and I dated when I was in high school, and she can testify to the fact that I was a complete nihilistic, atheistic shithead who did indeed have a job as a shipping clerk. :)

My self-identifying goth housemates swear by Sisters of Mercy as well.

I listen to goth even though I've NEVER been a goth. And I saw The Dots; they were atrocious live. I mean, it was just embarrassing.

[identity profile] sarars.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I feel like reading this book: .

And I wonder what other books Bush read over the summer, or perhaps that was it.

[identity profile] nom-de-grr.livejournal.com 2006-08-17 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I hated it. The show bored me to tears, and there were hippie goths fluttering around like it was a Grateful Dead concert. The "Modern Man" spoken word number was particularly silly. Oh, and when the saxophonist started thrusting his pelvis in some girl's face while wearing a lascivious leer on his old man mug... gross. It was kind of entertaining that Edward Ka-spel performed in his jammies, though.

I'm just glad that Rasputina put on a pretty decent opening act.

Yeah, then you don't have to "walk around and look at nature and shit" ( <- actual quote from an actual first/last date )

All is fair in love.

"That was you?!"

yuppers. i was laughing when i saw your name pop up on the screen.

"Add me to your contacts, yo."

done-diddly-done

btw, if you read comics at all you might want to check out The Walking Dead. good zombie comic that focuses more on how people deal with the situation rather then on the carnage (tho it does have a bit of that too)

Godot + Camus + the Cure = h0tt. Maybe teh purzident heard Killing an Arab on the Clear Channel last month liked it, and found out through the intarwebz that it's based on a Camus novel, and decided to read it.

Worry not: in AP English, we had to do book reports and 2 of my classmates chose l'étranger, precisely for the same reason that mr.purzident read it: it's a quick read (less than 100 pages, if I remember correctly).

It didn't make any fucking sense to them, they admitted, but they can tell the basic storyline: Man isn't sad when his mum died, man has sex with a girl named Marie, man kills arab, man waits in prison, man gets acquitted and walks out a free man. Except that man didn't walk out a free man.

Hey, I love the Dots. I haven't seen them in like 5 years...

That could be good, too.

Although if I had an octopus, I might not want to eat them... and they're so delicious.

in the NY Times on wednesday maureen dowd wrote an hysterical op-ed on bush reading camus. i love her.

In that game my name is Elias Taylor. Decided to go with the "V" theme.

"And yes, I do <3 comics"

Have you read any of the Marvel universes "Civil War" comics and crossovers? It's very interesting because it's based so much on the whole "war on terrorism" thing.

[identity profile] lopukhov.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I swear, both of those guys who (supposedly) read the book independently of one another (they had separate reports, but I think they split the book in half) were trying to convince us that Meursault walked out a free man.

*I* thought Meursault dies in the end. He wasn't going to offer any "reasonable" defense of himself. That makes him h0tt, in theory. Hell, I was even going to christen my bike 'Meursault' once I get 'er painted black and put the luggage rack on.
