Oh okay

1. Grab the nearest book. (N.B. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.)
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Tag 5 people.

"See, I've studied pigeons, robins, merlins, Jabber knows what else, but I've not yet seen a fucking garuda up close. So I'm going to go hunting. I've put it off, but I think the time's come. I'm going to Spatters."

I tag the five of you who haven't done this meme already. You know who you are.

I would do this meme, except I'm at work, and so there literally are no books here.

The book closest to me was "A History of Anarchism". Heheh.

Are we talking published books, or proto-books?

What about curriculum documents?

I'm so confused!

"But she changed her mind when the king did not think this right, because she had no fear that her sister would bring someone there who would defeat her champion, even if she waited a year. So King Arthur announced that the combat take place in six weeks. The younger sister then took leave of the court, prayed that God might take care of her, and rode forth to seek her champion."

If we were at a concert we'd be screaming in each other's ears and not even notice.

The nearest book to me is "Introduction to Econometrics". That would be scary and require Greek letters and maths and stuff.

LOL, I did it; instead of some thrilling speculative fiction (my usual fare) I am reading The Wages of Whtieness: Race and the making of the american working class. I'm reading it as homework for a study group. SO I'm kinda embarrassed aobut how geeky my meme is! LOL.

at work also

The value of whence specifies which of three file positions your offset is relative to: 0, the beginning of the file; 1, the current position in the file; or 2, the end of the file. offset may be negative for a whence of 1 or 2.

seekdir

seekdir dirhandle, pos
Set the current position for the readdir routine on dirhandle. pos must be a value returned by telldir. This function has the same caveats about possible directory compaction as the corresponding system library routine.

The nearest book to me is the graphic novel Kings in Disguise and page 123 has but one line, "Hey everybody - the sheriffs commin'!"

I *wish* I had some book around that is not intellectual. Oh to read just for fun!! Grad school in literature is synonymous with only reading for university. If I reached out my hand there would be a text of lacanian psychoanalysis, so I will just spare you and not reach out my hand.
