Also, I finally saw Three Kings last night (it seemed appropriate, given the anniversary) because a whole bunch of people told me that it was good. It was, for about the first half. Is it me, or does it feel like they had to splice a different movie in there so that American audiences wouldn't feel that bad about themselves?

It was more the etymology that I was commenting on, since you seemed confused about it—taschen is always spelled taschen, no matter the number, if I recall my German classes correctly. I don't know if there's an early German tasch to which the -en was appended or some such, and I'm too lazy to look it up.
