Historical materialism. And rainbows.

I can't go to this, as usual (though at least I'm apparently not missing China MiƩville this time) but isn't the header the most wonderful thing you've seen in awhile? And they say Marxists don't have a sense of humour.

(The font is utter shit, though.)

Argh! Why can't I be there! I really want to hear this:
Queer Affect and the Limits of Group Bonding in Palestine and Israel.

One of the narratives that I hear a lot is that LGBT politics in my locale are very liberal and enable gay Palestinians to be liberated in Israel and I'm like... dear god, that isn't how it works.

The whole thing looks fascinating!

then again reading from the comments in your last journal entry, seems that most of the people in your locale are annoying and self righteous :)

oogle. Are these conferences nice? There is one round the corner from me every year but it tends to be full of silly people ranting repetitive stuff. I only went once ten years ago, though, so maybe it's changed. Hmmm. My brain alas is too mushy to understand things like dialectical anything and historical materialism, so I'll content meself with walking my sausage doggie by Marx's grave and sending homage blessings through the brambles to him.

i haven't been to one of these before but i am curious why a lot of the lectures are not (or are they?) about marxist struggles. like for some reason there's a bunch of palestine-relevant lectures, as well as queer stuff and patriarchy stuff... i dunno why they would be in that conference. i feel like marxists today are trying to appropriate every struggle as a marxist struggle.

What's a marxist struggle?

Marx is a tool for analysis...

I agree with the last sentence though.
