Dear Americans

Always remember that if they had the money to bomb Iran, they had the money for universal healthcare, affordable housing, USAID, even egg subsidies if y'all* were so hell-bent on cheap eggs that you'd elect a fascist.
Goddamn. Part of me wants them to just go ahead with a land war because at the first sight of a dozen American flag-draped coffins, they'll regret purging all the trans people and "DEI hires" and the other competent people from the military. I don't really. I don't want anyone to die, especially civilians in Iran, who didn't even get a fake choice between one warmonger and another. I don't even want Americans to die—I like a lot of you.
I want the people who voted for this to viscerally feel the consequences of their actions. Let the crops wither on the vine without immigrants to pick them. Let preventable diseases decimate their communities. Let the price of eggs climb ever higher. I mean. Not really. Except the egg thing. But this won't change until the suffering hits home. The problem is, of course, that the suffering is inevitably visited on the people who don't deserve it.
Americans, your duty now is to vaccinate yourselves and your kids, take care of your communities, watch foreign news and weather forecasts, and keep reminding every GOP voter you meet that the suffering they endure is as a direct result of their party.
So the bigger part of me just wishes the deep state conspiracy was true and someone, somewhere, had the power to put a stop to this.
* Not you, obviously. Or you wouldn't be reading my blog, which has beaten the "don't invade other countries" drum since the early 2000s when I started it.
