Which State of Israel should we hope that Canada will stand up for? The one that defies the very code of ethics that Jews have fought so hard to be able to live by? Or the hypothetical one that that every citizen could be proud of?
An Israeli activist explained to me last year that the best way any Jew can "support Israel" (if that phrase even has any clear meaning unto itself) is to advocate for a just and peaceful Israel - not just any Israel. I don't need Stephen Harper telling me that as a Jew I should be proud that he's standing up for the wrong Israel.
