I originally thought that B5 was a cheap rip off of DS9. I later discovered that it was really the reverse: DS9 was a well-funded rip off of B5 that took advantage of B5's troubles getting started.
I first saw a few random episodes of B5 and was underwhelmed. But after a friend made me watch them in order, I could not watch DS9 anymore - even though it was rapidly getting better, it was still not as good as B5,
