Despite my own failure to enjoy my day, I do have to share a bit more about the Honourable Wife-Beater's ignominious departure from office. Because while it was personally a shit day for me, it is a great fucking day for my city.



The breaking news is that Mammoliti, who is nearly as bad, has quit the executive committee. So that's two down in one day.

The key bit is this at the end:

Accordingly, I declare the seat of the respondent, Robert Ford, on Toronto City Council, vacant.

Two of the names being tossed around are Olivia Chow and Adam Vaughan. Both would be good; Chow, however, could win in a landslide if the election were held today. I volunteered for her federal campaigns twice even though I wasn't an NDP member at the time because she's damned good at what she does.

The challenge will be getting Chow to agree to run on time for a by-election. She's been inching towards a 'yes' for 2014, but she's not there yet.

I still haven't finished reading the decision (because it's loooong) but I must say, the one thing that is particularly standing out to me is this: The guy is being asked to personally repay the just over three thousand dollars he'd raised. He'd had about a year in which to do so. And then he said that he couldn't, because the money "was gone"; it had been spent on sports equipment.

The dude makes over fourteen thousand dollars a month (according to Wiki). How in the fuck is he unable to pay back a piddly three grand?!

That really, really, really doesn't bode well for his fiscal management skills. :-/ I think it's a fantastic thing that he's out (perhaps TO will get its bike lanes back? From someone who is aware that the existence of roads pre-dated the invention of the bloody automobile?? Really, Ford? Really??) but I feel sorry for whoever will have to sort out the mess he's undoubtedly left.

At least he may be used as an effective object lesson on the importance of responsible voting, lol.
