This. I don't know whether it has to do with the college student contingent; I seem to recall that when I was an undergraduate, a large contingent of my peers believed that if they'd only just heard of something, it must be brand new and/or obscure to everyone else. Although honestly that might not be as much about undergrads as about me being able to filter that sort of person out of my life now.
