Any piece of shit can get an Oscar nod if the trailer looks like it will pull sufficient heartstrings. I don't think anyone actually watches the movies when they nominate.
America has its thing, but it tends to not be...like this? I don't know how to explain. America loves its underdog stories. This is not an underdog story. This is a guy who everyone thinks is great who has a bunch of technology backing him up, picking off guys in rags from a distance. It's so very unlike most of American cinema, even war movies, that I'm shocked at how overtly fascist it is and that it's managed to garner any critical acclaim whatsoever.
