I think Eastwood actually thinks that women sit on their couches and flip through magazines. Maybe some women do. I don't know any who actually sit down on their couch (while wearing makeup and not expecting company!) and read a magazine. We read magazines in the bathroom or the hairdresser's or the doctor's office; they're not something one does as an activity.
It's a small detail, but one of those things that just stands out as weird and unnatural for me. Like they had a magazine on set, but no books.
I have heard quite a bit about the plastic baby before reading your review. All in all it just sounds like a badly made movie.
I'd heard about the plastic baby but for some reason forgot about it, and when I watched it the first time, I was too drunk to notice. When I was watching it a second time to get the screencaps, though, I was all, "HOLY SHIT THAT BABY IS PLASTIC AND TWITCHING."
Fun fact: I was too drunk to notice the severed head first time around too.
