sabotabby: raccoon anarchy symbol (fetus parts)

Blog for Choice Day - January 22, 2007

This year's topic is a simple one: tell us, and your readers, why you're pro-choice.

Because no one has a right to use someone else's body without his or her consent. It's that simple, though it seems to be a ridiculously hard concept for some people to get their heads around.

There are other good reasons for being pro-choice, in that when women are able to control our own reproductive choices, it benefits everyone (lower crime rates, fewer deaths through back-alley abortions, more resources available for existing children), but it basically comes down to a basic respect for individual autonomy that is crucial in any just and functional society.

Also, because I like to "spread my legs without consequences."

I went to San Francisco with a few friends. We stayed in a decrepit mansion run by a woman who was coldly beautiful by day and ancient and ugly at night.

The first person I met there was the one-legged homeless man I see sleeping inside the bank at night. He seemed like he wanted to tell me something, but he couldn't speak.

One by one, the other guests in the mansion disappeared, though my friends and I were spared. I followed the woman into the basement and found that she was sacrificing the guests in order to keep the mansion standing. I fled before she could kill me for finding out her secret.

Back upstairs, I found that my friends had disappeared. I somehow managed to rescue them, and stop the woman from killing us all. My one-legged friend reappeared and told me that he'd been the janitor in the building, and the woman's first sacrifice, but he was finally free now.

We left the mansion, which was now crumbling, and stood on the beach and watched whales and sea lions surface. I felt at peace.
