frandroid points out, it's a very smart idea if your goal is to remain in power rather than to, say, serve the people.
It's very sad, you know. It's very easy to distract your average Canadian by flashing a toonie as you rob him of his entire wallet. And despite the evidence that trickle-down Reaganonmics don't actually benefit most people, most people seem to fall for it every time.
