Answer for question 4551.
Nov. 16th, 2015 12:45 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]I love dystopian YA fiction. The gist of it, as far as I can tell, is always, "what if the horrible things that happen to people of colour, every day, around the world, happened to pretty white teenagers? How terrible would *that* be?"
As a certified Old Person (TM), I of course believe the dystopian literature of my youth was much better, but it doesn't make sense to The Kids. How can you appreciate "1984" when you've grown up in a surveillance state? Or "Brave New World" when that looks like exactly the kind of security you wish your life had? Or "Handmaid's Tale" when you've got the Republicans in the US using it as a playbook?
