Plot twist!
Apr. 25th, 2019 08:30 pmDrug Fraud backed down. A little. He says he'll spend the $1.6 billion that he cut from education so that no teachers lose jobs as a result of increased class sizes.
This is obviously good news, unless he's lying, which since these are words that came out of his mouth, is probably the case. Regardless, even a slight walkback is clearly the result of the pushback from students, parents, teachers, and the public as a whole, particularly when one school board laid off half its teachers and kids already can't get the courses they want and need. We can't stop now.
The whole thing is weird, however, as class sizes are contractually negotiated, and our contract isn't up yet. But he still says that class sizes will increase. I smell a rat. There's a strong suspicion that this isn't new money but money that was already pledged back in March for something else, much like the "new funding" autistic kids, which was the same as any new student gets when entering the Board.
He's also guaranteed that anyone who calls his office will get legal aid, despite the fact that he massively cut legal aid and entirely defunded it for refugee cases, so please do call his office and ask for legal aid.
