sabotabby: (books!)
Just finished: Antifa Splatterpunk, edited by Eric Raglin. The worst that can be said for a handful of these stories is they're forgettable; the best that can be said for quite a few is they're not and get to live rent-free in my head for a bit. I want a volume two. Given that I'm like, one degree of separation from a lot of these people, hit me up for cover design and/or a short story contribution for volume two. Please please please.

Bird Song by Clara Hume. This is a short, lovely novella about a modern day girl at a crossroads who ends up on an island out of Greek mythology. I find that self-published work has both flaws and indulgences not found in traditional publishing, to both its detriment and benefit, and this has both. There's a bit of a climate change theme that I wanted to hit harder but it's beautifully written.

Currently reading: House of Open Wounds by Adrian Tchaikovsky. This is the sequel/companion to City Of Last Chances, which if you recall correctly I absolutely loved. It follows one of the characters, formerly known as Yasnic and now as Jack, as he's conscripted into the medical corps of the occupying army from the first book. His power, such that it is, is that he was the last priest of a diminished God, who can heal any sickness or injury as long as the victim converts to his faith. The catch is that the faith is a purely pacifistic one, and if they engage in any act of violence, the healing reverses itself and they die. For a guy carrying around both God and a number of other small, forgotten and forbidden gods in a backpack, this puts our hero in all kinds of danger. It's really excellent so far.

Moby Dick by Herman Melville. Nothing yet this week.
