Reading Wednesday
Oct. 16th, 2024 07:33 amJust finished: Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Winters, edited by Sarena Ulibarri. Hah, so after I made my wee joke about all solarpunk stories being the same, there were a few that had a different plot. Nevertheless, I stand by my assertion that while this is a good example of the thing, it is not my thing. But if you like cozy stories about utopian or semi-utopian futures, you'll dig it.
Currently reading: The Witches of Moonshyne Manor by Bianca Marais. The world has been conspiring against me being able to just sit down and read lately, so I've just started this. It's very fun. It's about a coven of octogenarian witches in a house that is slated for demolition because the one responsible witch hasn't been keeping up with the mortgage payments. Now an angry mob is at their door and they have to ally with Persephone, the young feminist daughter of the mayor, to save their home. Also there is another member of their coven who is returning after a 33-year absence, and some of the witches have secrets about why she left that they're not keen to reveal.
Besides the story, there are spells throughout, which is a cool touch. I like badass old ladies so I'm into it.
