I had reason to think about how right-wing conspiracy theorizing has become the other day when I was explaining The Illuminatus! Trilogy to a friend who hadn't heard of it. That series was a huge part of my adolescence, HUGE, and I went whole hog on the Discordian stuff for a long time, signing my letters "Hail Eris!" and so on. This is intensely embarrassing to me now for obvious reasons, but also for less obvious ones. Describing the plot of the books to my friend this week, I realized how Reddit they sounded. You know like how "libertarians" think they're lefties because they want to decriminalize weed or whatever, but in the end it all just boils down to leveraging white-guy power against everyone who's not a white guy.
ANYWAY w/e thank you for the warning about the X-Files reboot. I DETEST baby plots and have a feeling that this one will nudge the needle from "hilariously bad" into "I unironically want to die" so I probably won't bother.
