I think the best thing about The Chair was how it showed exceptionalism doesn't work; you can't just give one woman of colour a position of "power"/responsibility and expect entrenched bias to vanish overnight. Ji-Yoon was fighting a losing battle from day one. (It sucked so hard that she got voted out rather than supported, but it rang very true.) I also really enjoyed the depiction of her Korean background and family.
