"25 neighbourhood moms and dog-walkers" I need to know more about this
Literally that's what's happened. Source: One of my friends was there. Basically there's a dog-walk group on FB and they were discussing what to do about it and decided to go physically block them. And then the neighbours came out and then people signal boosted and they just kept it going all day until the convoy had to turn around and leave.
I'm honestly horrified by (at least some) of the coverage we've gotten over here. According to my mum, the news she watched on TV presented it as just truckers fighting for better life/work conditions rather than, y'know, a far-right shitshow pretending to be that.
There are truckers doing that! But it's an entirely different group of truckers and they're not protesting or anything. But they've spoken out about how 1) their working conditions are shit, and 2) they want nothing to do with the convoy. Most of the convoy isn't truckers at all.
I'm not at all surprised by the copycat movements in Paris in light of the yellow vests protests. There were so many far-right types who joined in or supported them :/ I literally saw people defending it because of how there were people of other political stripes, apparently. Which is ridiculous to me. The world is currently in a situation where we just can't afford to normalise or join forces with people like these and it's SO FRUSTRATING when people see them as possible allies because they share some of their grievances or because they must be angry for a reason. UGH /rant
Yeah. I saw some leftists jumping on to this as some kind of an organic working class uprising, which it is absolutely not. It's a well-funded astroturf fascist uprising of primarily the petit bourgeoise.
