I have seen remarks that labor unions used to be MUCH stronger in the US and then by the time I was old enough to vote, their power and influence had eroded A TON. I don't know why that is either on a historical or regulatory level (my actual US history class tapped out around the end of WWII so...), or why the left moved away from that focus, in the US; I assume there are analyses out there, I just don't know off the top of my head.
