13-year-old makes a crypto coin called Gen Z Quant, buys $350 of his own coin, dumps it eight minutes later having made $20k and says to his Twitch livestream while giving them double middle fingers, “No way. Holy fuck! Holy fuck! Holy fuck! Thanks for the twenty bandos.”

Understandably his buyers were irate, so he proceeded to make another memecoin called “i’m sorry” and people fall for it, as well as one called “my cat lucy”, making him another $10k.

At that point of course he gets doxxed and the furious calls begin, but it didn’t deter him from making two new currencies (and another $5k) two weeks later. So clearly the doxxing wasn’t so bad that his parents cut him off from the internet.

Any time a literal child - I mean, 13 is barely a teenager even - shows up adult crypto bros, I’m here for it.

I keep reading and rereading everything about the South Korean news. One woman charged it as a business expense for her travel. Absolutely wonderful. I wonder if I would be a badass like that. And if 47 would back off like theirs did? sigh. but no no - absolutely immersed in the story!

It depends. There’s still a lot of places in the US where one can hunker down and wait until things get quieter.

Having read a lot more about this now, my sense is that based on the fact that this dude was a careful planner but also seems to have deliberately done things where his face got seen (like going to Starbucks but discarding the items without using them, which indicates he never actually needed to go in there), I wouldn’t put facial prosthetics past him. I used to do haunted house stuff and know from experience that professional prosthetics are fully manageable for an amateur who’s spent a 5-10 hours learning how to adhere them accurately and blend the edges with makeup. My guess is that the dude they think they’re looking for may look nothing like the dude they’re actually looking for.

I guess it's that damn Americo-centrism in me. I always expect S Koreans to do crazy ass mass actions of one sort or another. I never expect an American to kill a CEO (health or otherwise). But that's surprise, not heartwarming. On second thought I guess maybe 1 is the correct answer, and the 2nd is not necessarily comforting/heartwarming but pure joyous outburst.

I think you have to mean it, and the Koreans meant it. I've never been convinced that Americans are that willing to throw down for their democracy. It seems to be more of an inconvenience than anything else to them.

I have never been a big fan of propaganda by the deed as a strategy but you can see there are some cases where it's worked. Notably in the Shinzo Abe assassination, where yeah sure the guy got caught but everyone was all, "oh, guy absolutely needed killing" and made concrete changes as a result.

The two specific options you've listed are certainly important stories. I can understand why many might say "Right on!" But heartwarming? Not so much. I think part of the problem here is that heartwarming stories don't typically make the news, unless they concern people local to your area. So I might nominate "Unknown Local Hero" [who rolls up their sleeves, does good works, starts a GoFundMe for someone down on their luck ... or whatever.] Or how about the following story:

Just the general idea of getting away from impersonal dating apps., avoiding spammers and marriage fraudsters, caring for others and really connecting with our fellow human beings!

Aww, that is really sweet. I mean, I have never once met someone through a dating app. I've only ever met romantic partners while living my life.

I disagree that GoFundMe stories are heartwarming, though. I've rarely seen one that isn't evidence of some kind of massive societal failure, unless it's something like "fund my cool art project."
