I hate the JCC for reasons entirely non-political (i.e., when I cancelled my membership, they kept billing me even though I called every month, and I finally had to go in and yell and scream at them). So I wouldn't recommend getting a membership there. Is the pool at Bloor and Christie being closed, or is that too far? Too bad you can't come to Hart House with me. Also, I think they do donate a lot of their money to the JNF, so there's a political reason to not get a membership too.
It was a few years ago, but my friend used to work out in a keffiyeh (why? I don't know) all the time there. He got some odd looks, but that was it. Of course, that's before they went and got security guards.
