Pop culture tiems
Jan. 22nd, 2009 05:52 pmOkay, two trailers for upcoming movies made from books I loved made the friends list rounds in the last few days.
First up, a Watchmen viral marketing thingie that, at last, hits what I think is the correct tone:
(Please tell me that the cartoon will be included as a DVD extra.) Anyway, you know you want to watch the shit out of this, even if it ends up being disappointing.
I'm less enthused about the trailer for Coraline, though:
As I was ranting about to
rohmie, both the animation and the voices seem wrong to me. The book is creepy as fuck in a way that that a mere description of the plot can't convey, and this seems too much like a cute and quirky family movie.
But I can be proven wrong. Discuss!
On another note, for some reason I didn't know that they'd translated the book of Night Watch, and I was terribly excited to see it in a bookstore. I went all squee! because when I was in Russia, it was the thing. I saw the movie but, well, you know how these things are. It didn't make much sense, particularly in translation. Obviously it is not much of a cultural phenomenon here, but I'm wondering whether it's shown up on the radar at all.
Hence, a poll:
