Local people! Hey, you know how we're always complaining how there are no good places—infoshops, alternative art galleries, event spaces, etc.—in Toronto? It turns out someone did something about it. Tonight, I paid my first visit to Beit Zatoun, which is a gallery focused on social justice, human rights, arts, and culture. It hosts the global office of Project Hope and has a wee store for Zatoun fair trade Palestinian olive oil.
So basically, it is a very large amount of awesome under one (lofty) roof. And it's across the street from Honest Ed's, so it isn't even hard to get to. The only problem is that it isn't wheelchair accessible. I wonder how hard it would be to fix that.
If you go there before April 9th, you can check out the exhibit that opened tonight, which is a showcase of photography and graphic novels by Project Hope students in Nablus.*
If you can't go, you should check out their website and submit olive oil recipes.
