Emerging from the telly hole

Okay, so Breaking Bad just shot up to Second Favourite Thing On TV* (eclipsing even Fringe and Mad Men, though in fairness this may be because the latter hasn't aired in such a long time) with the fourth season.

You're now allowed to discuss spoilers on my LJ. In other news, I may soon have to produce a long ramble about why I like it so much. For now you just need to understand that it's one of those shows that makes me want to copy what I see on TV. I don't mean drug-dealing and murder; I mean I look at those shots and that editing and wrack my brain all day figuring out how to replicate it. TVTropes says they're using handheld cameras to film, which is making me confused.

Right, now I will need some new TV to watch, I guess. It's probably going to have to be the rest of The Wire.

ETA: Mostly for snarkitysnarks, who is a bad influence in so many respects, Breaking Bad: Friendship is Magic.



* First being Treme, though I think BrBa's cinematography is actually better and the acting about equal.

I am not a fan of podcasts but I might check that out. When I obtained Seasons 1-3 in an entirely legal way I was pleased to find that it came with extras. The only one I watched so far was Team S.C.I.E.N.C.E., which made my life and which I found oddly touching.

I LOVE TEAM SCIENCE. Also amazing is the Twaughthammer "Fallacies" music video. XD

Most terrible special feature IMO were the Dean Norris "Cop Talk" videos. I DID WATCH ALL OF THEM b/c I watched/looked at/listened to every single special feature on every DVD, damn it. But it was painful. (But others might like than more than me, who knows! I have a low Hank bravado tolerance level.)

I'm genuinely unclear as to whether I'm supposed to like Hank at this point. I mean, I don't. But I don't know how the writers want me to feel, considering their general ability to manipulate my sympathies all over the place.

I hate Hank. So much. Sooo fucking much. But I love every single scene that involves him acting/being/feeling awkward after some failed attempt to use his bravado to dispel tension. I also loved the early seasons' awkward scenes of him with Marie and/or Skyler. Hilarious.

Yeah, I really enjoy watching him on screen. Especially the bit with Tortuga or every time he tries to act like he's Walt's best buddy. But I kind of want him to die.
