Good omens

Yes, Margaret Thatcher is dead.

Uh, you know this already. I am admittedly both pleased at the timing, given that the Official Maggie Exorcism Day is Thursday, and slightly irked, given that I have been planning, for years, to throw a party when the old bat finally bit it, and for obvious reasons I cannot. (Guys? Party in my hospital room? Maybe?)

But I'm going to take it as a good omen. And hey, if I die in three days, at least I'll have outlived her.

Anyway, what can I say that hasn't been said already? I mean, the internet pretty much exploded while I was at work. Good fuckin' riddance, too bad it took so long, etc.

Some links for your perusal:

Ian Bone's surprisingly understated reaction post. (I wish I could attend that party.)

21 Thatcher songs.

Glenn Greenwald on proper death etiquette.

I refuse to believe that this is actually a typo:

And, of course, the classic anthem:

Someone should probably stake her just to make sure.

Screwing over the working class until the very last.

Obama gave her a glowing review.

I think thats official proof his soul is dead.

I know its part of the job, as CEO of the USA you have to back up Britain, but still.

My second thought after learning the news was "Hey, and [livejournal.com profile] sabotabby is still alive!"

The first thought was "And I'm still alive!" There might have been some "Wheeeeee!" in there, but that was more an emotional response than a thought. As well as all the songs struggling to get out at one time.

May it be an omen. May you live for many years free of either Maggie, and the rest of the world of the one, and all involved maybe heal from the damage they did.

Huh.

Do you know, this is the first I've heard of it? See? I do live in a cave. XD

Also, I kind of thought she was already dead until I started some research the other day and found out she wasn't. Hard to tell though from some of those pics of her. Ba-zing!

I vaguely wonder what Alan Moore and David Lloyd's reactions were? Also Neil Gaiman's. And Douglas Adams; shame he didn't live to see this day. Oh, and Terry Pratchett's, although I'm not quite sure if he dislikes her as much a the others. He probably does, though.

Which reminds me: I forgot to mention it before but GOOD OMENS OMG!!! Fantastic book I cannot WAIT to hear what you think of it. Great fun!

Maggie Maggie Maggie! Out out out!!

Neil Gaiman just shared this comic he wrote about Thatcher's government, so I don't think he mellowed about her. This would def. be an interesting time to be a fly on Alan Moore's wall.

"Margaret Thatcher has died, but not everybody has been hushed into a respectful silence.

Proving well-known journalists such as Martin Bashir are not the only voices of dissent, hundreds of people spent Monday evening celebrating the Iron Lady’s passing in the streets of south London and Glasgow.

The impromptu street parties, many of which were organized through social media, saw revelers celebrate with cans of beer, pints of milk (a reference to Thatcher’s decision to remove free milk rations from elementary schools), and loud music."

Check it out...

A lot of Yanks aren't sorry to see her go either. Many viewed her as the bitch sister of Ronald Reagan. I went to a punkshow the night Reagan died, and people were wearing newly made "Burn in hell Ronald" t-shirts.

This morning on my local college radio station, the DJ is playing one anti-Thatcher song after another.

That's how far her reach went. I'm in California. You can't get farther away from England on the Continental United States than here, and people here hated her guts!

When I heard she was dead, the first thing I thought of was Maggie. Both like "wooo good omen" (even though I don't believe in good omens) and like "yep, she's a spinal tumor."
