Capital is dead labor, that vampire-like, only lives by sucking living labor, and lives the more, the more labor it sucks. — Marx

Did you know about Buffy the Anarcho-Syndicalist Vampire Slayer?

No? Okay. You're welcome.

And the proof is in the fact that I friended you on LJ lo! these many moons ago, when the world was young and Our Lady Sabotabby was barely more than a kitten.

OMG, best thing EVA!

Anne was the first episode I saw, randomly, sitting alone in my room in Hackney and turning on the telly to see if there was anything vaguely worth watching on.

My life changed that day.

You know - I think that was the first one I saw as well.

I still remember the Television Without Pity joke of "Buffy runs a sword through her boyfriend and sends him to hell. Beat that, Dawson's Creek"

Although that's one of the times when I really wish that I hadn't read online announcements since they stated that there was going to be an Angel show which means that Angel isn't really dead - just useless for most of season 3.

I remember being highly suspicious of Angel on his own show since he had two modes in Buffy - Mope and Kill Everyone.

It took the writers almost the entire first season to figure out what to do with Angel that didn't involve one of those two things (they even brought back a fake Angelus back in one of the dumbest ways possible n the first season). But when they got to the second season, it seemed like the key to unlocking Angel was to have him singing Mandy for Karaoke.

Also helped that he let Darla and Drusilla kill a room full of lawyers - not because he was evil, just because he was pissed.

That was a favourite show of ours; we'd catch it every week back when it was on! I barely knew the character from Buffy, though, which probably helped a lot. I mean, I vaguely knew he was her vampire boyfriend who had a soul; but that was absorbed from the zeitgeist. I never really got into BtVS as a TV show for some reason (although I love the episode "Once More, With Feeling"), possibly because I adored the movie it was based on and thought it was hilarious.

Mind you, it ends up that the studio forced a lot of changes to the original concept that Whedon was able to undo with the series, so it's kind of ironic that I disliked the series for not being true to the movie, when in fact the movie wasn't true to the following series (based on the idea he had originally for the movie that then got changed).

In the end, though, ya wanna know what? I stuck with ATS long enough to get hooked because I loved the opening theme so much. I just ADORE cellos. Damn, I really should learn to play one.

That was a really cool show, though, even if it did take my Westley/Fred ship and throw it under a bus. And then stomp on it. And then set it on fire.

Curse you, Whedon. XD

Also wee little puppet men! Plus they made Wesley into a Bad-ass Bookworm, which is fantastic. :D

Yeah, I didn't watch Angel when I originally watched through Buffy because I wasn't interested in him as a character, particularly. A few years later someone told me I'd love it and lent me the DVDs.

Wes/Fred forever.

Anne was the first episode I saw, but I knew there was someone called Angel who had left under difficult circumstances, so my first assumption was that Lily would turn out to be Angel.

Now I know what I'm reading while my hair colour develops.

A more boring shade of red! Something called "medium auburn" rather than something called "hypnotic red". I needed to do the roots and I have job interview reasons for looking a bit less kooky for the next 2-6 weeks. After that, probably back to some blonde and orange streaks, but first I want to check out the local hair teaching school where I used to get my haircut, and see what sort of modelling arrangements they have these days.
