So Zimmerman's going to have a book deal, a reality TV show, or a run for office—or all of the above—next, right? I think that's how it works in America.
I thought I smelled his lawyer angling for the wingnut gravy train from the beginning. Sonofabitch makes me wish I believed in a hell that had room for more than Ronnie and Maggie.
Palin-Zimmerman '16. Platform will include fetal gun rights and legalizing the hunting of African-American men via helicopter (a.k.a., "stand your skies").
It was reassuring to hear one of the instructors in my class, a late-20s white guy, former marine, and not someone who backs down from a fight, talk about how "unfortunately" what Zimmerman did wasn't illegal under Florida law.
That is what happens, but it's not exactly fun for the infamous villain. OJ certainly didn't have a happy life afterward, and Casey Anthony doesn't seem to be having a great time. It's "big scarlet A on your chest" territory - eternal public scrutiny and shaming and being reminded you are outside the community and cannot ever atone or pay your debt. I wouldn't say it's justice; that man stalked and murdered a child. But I don't know that it isn't its own kind of prison. Forever. And everyone will be looking to bust him for something else, so (like OJ) I'm not convinced he won't still do jail time. If he lives.
