Just finished watching the series finale of Breaking Bad, which means that I can go back on the internet. (I was mostly avoiding all sites because it's the one show where I care about spoilers.)

Gahhh, I loved it. Flawless finale to one of, if not, the most flawless television show ever made. The last season was so incredibly tense that I'm actually glad it's over; I keep joking that it was bad for my blood pressure, but really, I don't like to be that invested in fiction.

"I don't like to be that invested in fiction." I feel the exact same way! I had to stop watching Dexter (in part because it started to suck) mostly because I didn't like the tension of the show and feeling compelled to watch.

But Breaking Bad - gods it was amazing. I can't think of a weak episode or actor. (Tight, tight TIGHT!) I only started watching it this year and got caught up during the fifth season hiatus. I feel like there's a void in my life now.

I tend to binge-watch TV because I torrent it all, so I miss out on the metaphorical water-cooler but I'm not in actual suspense week to week. The two exceptions have been Game of Thrones, which isn't suspenseful because I've read all the books and Breaking Bad, which is. And I honestly don't remember being compelled to such a point since possibly X-Files.

I think a lot of it is also that most shows I like either get prematurely cancelled or go on one or more seasons too long, and I was always worried that BrBa would end up getting less awesome. I can maybe think of three shows in recent years that have run their entire course and ended on the right note, and this was definitely the best of them.

And the weird thing is that Breaking Bad's final season was pretty much spelling it out for you in where it was going. I found it odd that people were worried about spoilers since every episode seemed to broadcast the next episode and the final was not surprising and yet completely tense and awesome.

I was surprised by two things in it, and I don't think I would have enjoyed it quite as much if I'd known. But yeah, the general trajectory had been spelled out for awhile.

Pretty much the only big suprise was the thing with the grey matter people. I totally expected walt to kill them.

I figured that the ricin was for Lydia. I was surprised that Jesse made it out, though.

Jesse's fate surprised me too. He's so damaged by all he's endured that it's hard to imagine him having a shot at a normal life.

He adopts Brock and becomes a carpenter in Alaska and publishes a webcomic, and this is my headcanon forever.

I didn't watch it, didn't watch any of Breaking Bad as I avoid TV shows that get too complex (never watched Game of Thrones either) - not because I don't like a complex plot, but because it inevitably becomes a time-suck and there are other things I want to do with my hours.
Lianne (partner) never watched it but binged on it in the two-three weeks before the last episode - I asked her if it ended with Walter in the Witness Protection Program, relocated to the town of "Millbrook" with a fake wife and a raft of children...
