Grandmum: "So, did you watch the wedding this morning?"
Me: "Someone got married?"
Grandmum: "The wedding."
Me: (Thinks for a moment.) "Oh, wossface with the ears and the concubine lady?"
Grandmum: "That's them."
Me: (Is reminded of why she only watches TV for sci-fi/fantasy dorkishness, prison sex, and the odd clever Canadian comedy-drama.) "Um, no."

Also found it strange that the coverage of the Pope's funeral yesterday involved the phrase, "unadorned coffin symbolic of the Pope's simple lifestyle." Le huh? I've been to Vatican City; have they?

I don't think I miss anything by not watching the news.

It's hilarious when my friends write Wikipedia articles on sectarian Canadian communist parties, especially when the names of mutual friends come up. I asked him when I'd be getting my write-up, but apparently I need to run for election first. Bollocks to that! I'm not even in Encyclopedia Dramatica, so I guess I shouldn't be too terribly surprised.

Oh man. Our favourite daily sport is watching the news and bitching at what's going on. You clearly need a bitching partner to watch the news, if nothing else...

picking out coffins is one of the creepiest things to do, ever. and dear jeebus, are they expensive.

and six feet under, how i miss it.

alsooooooooo, everyone kept saying to me today "DID YOU WATCH THE WEDDING?" like i was supposed to know what wedding was going on. i kind of hate weddings, except for those two little ladies who got married in san francisco or seattle. so cute. um, rambling, but yeah.

Elections? What? You need to stage a coup!

I didn't even realise wossface with the big ears was about to get married again until someone on my friends list made snide comments about the concubine lady.

Having no television is a blessing.

As for the pope, I do agree that one should say nothing but good of the recently dead.

He's dead. Good.

totally agree on the pope's coffin comment. i missed their comment about his "simple" lifestyle. however, i did wonder why it wasn't all decorative and filled with golden stuff on it.

now i know. pff.

When I lived in Jordan as a kid, I remember a big hoopla about the pope coming to visit. The night before we were to go see him, a friend of mine slept over...I told him we should try and find porn on tv, he told me the pope wouldn't appreciate us watching porn the night before. I told him the pope could suck my balls.

That's my only "encounter" with the Pope.

I do try to be respectful of other people's religions.

See, I think there's a difference between respecting:
1) Other people's religion
and
2) Respecting religious authorities, especially in such hierarchical churches as JP2's Catholic Church.

I will admit, however, to love the expresion "Vicar of Christ". I don't quite why.

'Prison sex'? Is that what you Canadians' version of the show 'COPS' is about? Ours just has massive police brutality and black people. And we usually cheer for the cops :/
