Today's visit = relatively civil
Apr. 9th, 2005 04:12 pmGrandmum: "So, did you watch the wedding this morning?"
Me: "Someone got married?"
Grandmum: "The wedding."
Me: (Thinks for a moment.) "Oh, wossface with the ears and the concubine lady?"
Grandmum: "That's them."
Me: (Is reminded of why she only watches TV for sci-fi/fantasy dorkishness, prison sex, and the odd clever Canadian comedy-drama.) "Um, no."
Also found it strange that the coverage of the Pope's funeral yesterday involved the phrase, "unadorned coffin symbolic of the Pope's simple lifestyle." Le huh? I've been to Vatican City; have they?
I don't think I miss anything by not watching the news.
It's hilarious when my friends write Wikipedia articles on sectarian Canadian communist parties, especially when the names of mutual friends come up. I asked him when I'd be getting my write-up, but apparently I need to run for election first. Bollocks to that! I'm not even in Encyclopedia Dramatica, so I guess I shouldn't be too terribly surprised.

alsooooooooo, everyone kept saying to me today "DID YOU WATCH THE WEDDING?" like i was supposed to know what wedding was going on. i kind of hate weddings, except for those two little ladies who got married in san francisco or seattle. so cute. um, rambling, but yeah.

Date: 2005-04-09 10:20 pm (UTC)I didn't even realise wossface with the big ears was about to get married again until someone on my friends list made snide comments about the concubine lady.
Having no television is a blessing.
As for the pope, I do agree that one should say nothing but good of the recently dead.
He's dead. Good.

Date: 2005-04-09 11:30 pm (UTC)See, I think there's a difference between respecting:
1) Other people's religion
and
2) Respecting religious authorities, especially in such hierarchical churches as JP2's Catholic Church.
I will admit, however, to love the expresion "Vicar of Christ". I don't quite why.
