I'm going to just leave this article here because I think it speaks for itself and the real reason (not crack or cunnilingus remarks) that the Honourable Wife-Beater is a genuine fucking menace.
People Might Freeze To Death Because Rob Ford Won't Quit Being the Mayor Of Toronto. Excerpt:
Also, this article is mostly about other stuff, but I was wondering if Armando Iannucci (the creator of the remarkably-utopian-in-hindsight The Thick of It) had weighed in on Ford, and hey, yes he did:
Toronto politics are officially the most ridiculous in the industrialized world, you guys. Even Berlusconi was kicked out eventually, but the Laughable Bumblefuck continues undeterred. I suggest that the people currently shivering in the dark find something to light on fire and bring it on down to City Hall.

It is amazing to me how quickly everyone I know has become used to the situation in Toronto, to the more or less total suspension of the ordinary. If you had told me last Christmas that in a year 39% of the voters of Toronto would support a crack-smoker, I simply would not have believed you. Daily life is weird.

Yes, that was huge over there [and in the US]. And Rob Ford's still in the job, that's the remarkable thing. You can sort of get away with stuff over there. If you're larger than life, people like you. Whereas if you're larger than life here, people think you're a nutter and the party gets rid of you.

YeahBut .... and also, Frankly-speaking
Date: 2013-12-24 05:30 pm (UTC)But it took a hell of a lot longer than a year. I know you Hogtowners think you're either the pinnacle or acme of everything (I used to be one of you, so I do know!), but please! Some perspective is in order, shurely!
(Speaking of Shurely, I have sampled the new Frank and find it very much like the old Frank. Probably too much. I enjoyed it and will certainly pick up the next issue, but I couldn't help also thinking, "Ageing white guy still whacking the same old windmills, somehow ignores teh interwebs in favour of squewering the National Post one more time." Still, you'll likely get a kick out of it too.)

Date: 2013-12-24 05:45 pm (UTC)I suspect I'll check out at least one issue. I mean, I never get sick of skewering the NaPo either.

Date: 2013-12-24 06:22 pm (UTC)They had this total buffoon who owns most of the media as PM. Eventually they voted him out. Then they voted him back in again. Then out again. Then in again.
Meanwhile he kept getting convicted of crimes. Then acquitted. Then convicted of other crimes. Then acquitted. Sometimes the statute of limitations ran out on various of his malfeasances. Sometimes they ran out during the appeals processes. Which is... I mean, how can you have a statute of limitations that can come into effect after you've been convicted??? He is like the ultimate political zombie. Or Dracula. He always comes back. I expect he'll still come back even after they've finally managed to convict him of something all the way through the appeals.
Oh, and he is "The most persecuted man in history". Like, WHAT?
But Toronto comes second.
