Painting progress

I haven't painted in over a year, but I finished reading a whack of policy so I rewarded myself by working on this gal.

Love her dress, less pleased with her apron and hands, liked her face until I realized she looked a bit like Doge.

I think one or two more sessions and I'm finally done, though.

Hmm, I'm not quite seeing the Doge resemblance. The angle of her face maybe, but not her expression. I think she is sufficiently non-Dogelike to avoid critical remark.

I can see the Doge resemblance now that you've pointed it out but I couldn't at first. I really like the way you colour things, because I'll never figure out how people make different parts of something have slightly different colours. I choose to believe it's magic.

P.S.: Please tell me she's a psychopath?

It's not magic; it's actually laziness. I put a bunch of colours and don't completely mix them. The result is that it looks like I meant to do that.

She looks really psycho. She looked even more psycho before I added eyelashes, and I was tempted to keep her that way.

Well, whenever I've tried to paint, the colours just uniformly the same (for example, if I'm painting a dress, the whole dress will be the same colour, with no shading or anything because I don't get how to do that).

Are you going to add an ambiguously-human heart on that kitchen counter she's leaning on?

I may need to add a heart. I don't know. I think it's more disturbing with out one, because where is it?

(By the way, I just replied. I didn't know you were online so I got distracted by hatewatching a movie.)

P.S.: I just scrolled up and I think the lady in the painting looks less like Doge and more like that lady from that TV show whose name I don't know but whose picture I keep seeing. The one who looks a bit like a very cheerful psychopath.

I just don't like the stripes. She has stripes in the reference photo I took, but I don't like how they came out. I hate them less this morning, though.

I think you're way too hard on yourself - considering your tumor and your struggles with depression, you do a shitload. Hold down a steady job that you've been incredibly successful at (the cuts are not your fault at all and as you said, you'll most likely find another job right quick), socialize with people, write, paint, cook, participate in politics. Way more than most of us falling-apart losers! :)

The job loss is hitting me right in the macho-breadwinner-ego-thing that has somehow grown where I should have humble gratitude for what I have. If I can't manage that, I can't do anything.

Eh, fuck gratitude, but I hope you realize that you CAN and DO manage to have a job, and will most likely continue to have a job (even if not at Hogwarts or whatever). If I had raised all that money for my school and had students talk about me and to me the way yours do, I would feel unbelievably successful and proud of myself.

I know what you mean, though. I've been underemployed (to put it very politely) for months now, and haven't heard from 90% of places I've applied to (and been super overqualified for) and it's freaking depressing. Thank god my paid internship starts in a few months.

Back to you, though - you're an amazing teacher (like I said, you're one of those annoying people who's great at everything) and you may even find a better job with a better commute from all this. Will be crossing my fingers for you - whatever school you end up at will be ridiculously lucky to have you.

Lazy, that´s what I am but she really does look a lot like I feel a lot (don´t know who Doge is, should know Doge, probably) so this is just to say, I like her looks and those of her potential weapons so you see, I am all for the suggested psychopath thing; it´s gotta be let out somewhere, somehow.
