[Error: unknown template qotd]Perfect timing, as I have two answers.

The last *good* film I watched was "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night," which is flawless in every way. It is self-conscious in a way that manages to be stylish instead of twee. If you haven't heard about it or seen the trailer, it's an indie movie about a skateboarding Iranian vampire in a chador who preys on asshole men. It borrows a lot from film noir and Westerns and gave me the same thrill to watch as early Buffy, back when it was still surprising to see the blonde cheerleader turn on the monsters. Also the soundtrack is just gorgeous.

The last "good" film I watched was "Jupiter Ascending" and by "good" I mean it's about a space vampire bee princess that falls in love with a rollerskating space werewolf bounty hunter who used to be an angelic space Marine and if you don't think that sounds glorious, remind me why you read my blog?

I swear this is the last time I ever don't watch a movie with you. Sounds life changing. (That said...what do they DO?! Just rollerskate and summon bees?)

All righty then. This will happen.

Just don't expecting anything resembling logic or coherence, or very much in the way of good acting, though there's a fair bit of scenery-chewing overacting. But that is all just part of its bizarre charm. It's like if you took the most over-the-top Bollywood movie ever, but made it in English and removed the dance numbers. And then multiplied the special effects budget by about 100.

I've been considering the burkha myself not only on bad hair days but also to take revenge on assholes but being invisible (if one disregards a tall tower covered in indigo blue, it must be so fascinating to see the world from Inside and you can wear no make-up and noone knows whether to make a pass for are you hot stuff or not? Then, you do the Mars Attacks trick, et voilà! There are too many of them around anyway and I can help also I can get into Mosques without hurting anyone's feelings and have myself a contemplative Sufi moment. No wait, that was that other blog: so I shoot everyone I don't like the look of, that'll show'em. But I can also snivel to romantic movies like the ones you describe and no Short Person shall laugh at me when I cry as I did at the premiere of E.T. There but not in your place for I just booked another flight in ürop.

Good, I'm not in a crying mood. My nose can apparently drip all on it's own, feeling like an independent facial feature. Speaking of, I see, I wrote this in low spirits on a high fever which can but must not invariably bring out the best in International Mollberg Speak but as you are accustomed to deciphering M.S. you obviously understand the importance of not being laughed at by ten-year-olds at film premières (I must have sniveled too; damn). Invisibility is one thing I still need to try out and actually I'm fascinated by the burkha feeling, being there yet not seen, not really. Also I feel it is the right moment to promote the contemplative character of certain religious beliefs, in fact, they all seem to have them in common, not that many are interested in the Mystics when there are beheadings to be had.

Recent ones I thoroughly enjoyed were "The Giver" (which, okay, was problematic but which was entertaining science fiction) and "Interstellar" (which kind of reminded me of "2001: A Space Oddessy," in more ways than one), which was also a science fiction movie, and I am using "science fiction" here to differentiate from "scifi". "Interstellar" particularly reminded me of my days in high school devouring Isaac Asimov's works; it is SO. REFRESHING. to have a space movie that doesn't have sound in space. Holy crap.

"Cloud Atlas" I watched I think last year and again thoroughly enjoyed it, to the point I think I'll have to watch it again soon. You should check it out; it's really engrossing (also really long).

And of course saw "Guardians of the Galaxy" along with everybody else (which did have sound in space, but it wasn't trying to be proper science fiction) and thoroughly enjoyed that too.
