Last Sweden photodump

For tomorrow I return to Canadaland.




I understand that all visitors to Sweden must visit the Vasamuseum, which houses an epic monument to hubris and a sober reminder of why absolute monarchy is not a good thing.


Do not be a sailor. The life of a sailor is not a fun one, and it looks like the death of one is even worse.


The lion represents King Gustav II Adolf, who decided to build a massive ship that lasted 20 minutes in the water because of its design flaws. The dog represents the people. Humble guy, Gustav II Adolf.


I found out that cinnamon buns are like the national cake of Sweden or something, so I insisted on testing one. For science. It was too good for this world, too pure.

We also went to the ABBA museum. I don't have pictures, but now you have "Take a Chance On Me" stuck in your head. You're welcome.


Today, we took the ferry out to Gällnö, in the archipelago, for ALL THE HIKING. It's gorgeous, and I shall not spam you with all the pictures, but here are many pictures.


I got all excited because there was a Midsommarstång, which is like a Maypole. This was not a very fertile one but that made it all the more photogenic.







Imagine the Swedish countryside, as it exists in your brain (that is, assuming you've never been there). Picturing it? Good. Okay:








There was an oven that the Russian soldiers used to bake bread when they occupied the island in 1719. It did not have chicken feet.


This building was frighteningly anthropomorphic, though.

We capped off the evening at a monument to Hjälmar Branting.









Home tomorrow. Though Heathrow. Wish me luck.

I now have Take A Chance on Me in my head as() Constitutional Monarchy remains the Ideal Form of State such as shown in your pictures. Sailors don't brush their teeth properly therefore die miserably. Those LJ users look like revoluzzos and would surely fight for peace by drinking vodka on an island. Must now go sob my heart out over my lack of kanelbullar but Bullerby barn are soon to arrive and before that I mustmustmust vacuum this place. *sobs*

Constitutional monarchy is also dreadful but at least the monarch isn't in charge of all things, including boat design.

I admit, he is a bit of a drab monarch the currant Berry one and can't even spell but who are we to pick on the dyslexic but he did have good taste in women.
