My friends back home seem to think that distance should have insulated me from the impact of this election. ...Somehow. ...As if I'm not still an American who wants the best for my country, and the people like me who live in my country, who just want to live their lives in peace, free of persecution.

I get that. I haven't lived in the UK for 24 years and it still hurts when the Tories win a general election.
