[Poll #413570]

I spoke to my doctor last night; granted, he's not an oncologist, but he did make it through med school and has some idea of what he's talking about. Apparently the situation may not be as dire as my stepdad's doctor may have suggested. So here's hoping, and doing the atheist equivalent of praying.

On a far less dire note, I seem to have gotten that cold that's been going around, despite my attempts at being a recluse. Ow.

When will you hear from your step-dad's doc? I thought you would know by today.

With regard to your poll, I always have the damndest time reading your "interweb"-speak. But I thought about you while watching The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension for the first time the other night. In it, there is a door marked "SEKRIT: NO ENTRY" because the invading aliens don't spell so well.

Have you seen The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)? Am I the only person I know in geekdom who hasn't already seen this sci-fi classic? If you haven't, you'ld like it. After all, how awesome is a movie with John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd and Vincent Schiavelli as the principle villains? The film also has Peter Weller (Robocop, Naked Lunch) and Jeff Goldblum as the good guys. Although the film is technically zombie-free, it has some zombie movie elements.

You should rent it again while you are bedridden at home.

In chapter two of his hilarious book, Skipping Toward Gomorrah, Dan Savage recounts* how he volunteered to work for some wacko homophobe's election campaign while he had the flu. He made it a point to breathe on all the phones and doorknobs. If you are not currently getting sick days off, you might want to casually mention this around the water cooler or in the staff break room.

*Via a lengthy foot note written by his lawyer. Shortly thereafter, he has another footnote saying that footnotes are fun.

I saw it, but I think I was far too young to fully appreciate its coolness. And it was definitely before my big-ass crush on Peter Weller started.

Here is a gratuitous Peter Weller photo I ran across while looking for pictures for this post. In the process, it occurred to me how [livejournal.com profile] missnegativity-like his partner seemed (being a cop, not withstanding, of course): a short, short-haried pistol with a pistol.

Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] avrom, I wonder what Russian translation of scripture he uses.

What's it say on your icon? I can't quite read it.

Glad to hear better news about your step-dad!

I kind of get annoyed at people that are offended because they suddenly have to pay for free stuff that a corporation was doling out before. What were you thinking, they were doing it out of the goodness of their heart? It's not because corporations are devious that people have to act like innocent little doves and not figure out what's going on until the sword comes down. You just take it while it's there, and then if you don't like the ads, you can pay.

Now, if Livejournal had been government-run, that'd be something else... hehe.

I was surprised to find that the sale of LJ had made it into the pages of the Metro paper this morning. Cynthia Gould was quoted too. There's a cool reporter working for Metro for sure. Unless the article was filched from the Star, like half of them are, which would make more sense.

It mentioned that people were afraid of changes, like would the new company peek into their journals or something. As if that's any different than pre-sale.
