The logical conclusion of liberalism

You know, there's so much about Cheeto Benito's wholesale looting of the scraps of the American Empire that I have to turn my ragebutton off for much of the day just to be mildly functional. Don't get me wrong; I'm angry all the time, but I have to still get up and go to work and do the laundry and grocery shopping and make sure the cats are fed, so I can't be a full-time ball of flaming fury.

But every day or so something happens that is so completely over-the-top that I just drop everything and go like this.

Today, it's Bono, the end product of nearly two centuries of liberalism and Glamour's Woman of the Year*, praising a man who believes in electrocuting gay children for his work on AIDS research.

I got nothin'. Well, that's not really true. I have nothing but hatred and contempt for Cheeto Benito and his bargain basement Stormtroopers. But there is only one species of lifeform lower than a fascist, and that's a collaborator. It's a scumsucking tax-evader who claims the moral high ground when it benefits him and instantly asslicks the Alt Reich because the glamour of standing next to ultimate power gets him hot.

So in lieu of projectile vomiting enough to earn a cameo on season 2 of the Santa Clarita Diet, here's the only thing that helps:

I'm not surprised. Bono has always, always struck me as an irrelevant guy who is the worst of the condescending Good Intentions of a certain generation and who lives for publicity. Like a more popular Morrissey with none of the bright spots in his music career.

I'm confused re: the transphobia in that award. Is it because of Caitlyn Jenner getting the award last year (I just Googled it) and implying she's a man? IDGI.

Also, I don't want to be dismissive of Glamour and claim it's irrelevant, because clearly there are people who read it and care about it. But it's my sincere hope that it'll either change completely or become utterly irrelevant within my lifetime. Most media aimed at women/girls who are currently in their 20s or teens seems to lean in a very different direction for a while now, and the fact that the very mainstream Teen Vogue has stopped giving any fucks gives me hope.

Bono's been terrible for ages but never forget that he used to hang around with the Mekons and therefore should know better. Morrissey is a terrible person but at least he has zero circle of actual influence and plus I like his music.

I just wanted to clarify that I'm not trying to insult Bono by misgendering him.

I remember girls' media having a subversive streak when I was growing up, but nothing like Teen Vogue now, which is amazing. I would have had way less internalized misogyny as a tween if it had been like that then.

I did see. I can't even comment because Americans' attitudes towards abortion are so completely fucked that even the supposed left won't fight for women's health in developing countries in any meaningful way.

Right! There's a reason that my link goes to Oxfam Canada and not Oxfam USA: because Oxfam USA did not put out a press release. Despite having been putting out daily press releases in response to DT's orders.
